Obituary of Lucy A. Paolella

Lucy A. Paolella, a lifelong Madison resident, died peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 84.

Lucy is survived by her siblings, Jeanne Lukasavage, Mary Ann Milne, Madeline Burdett, Dominic Paolella, John Paolella and Elizabeth Merli; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Lucy was born in Morristown on June 12, 1938 to the late John N. and Mary Paolella. She was raised in Madison, the second oldest of eight children. When her parents both died at a young age, Lucy, her late brother Sal and their sisters raised their four younger siblings. Lucy was an integral part in the lives of Sal’s children and grandchildren as she stepped up to fill the void after Sal’s wife passed away. She was also a loving and caring godmother to her five godchildren.

Lucy had a long career as a bookkeeper at Bederson LLC, an accounting firm in West Orange. She loved spending time with family and finding the perfect card and gift for any occasion. She was an avid METS fan and enjoyed playing poker, cooking traditional Italian dishes and desserts, playing bingo, as well as the occasional family casino day trip. She was also a woman of great faith, worshiping at St. Vincent Martyr Church, St. Thomas More Church, and the Shrine of St. Joseph.

A Memorial Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Gathering for prior to the Mass from 9:30AM to 10:00AM in the front vestibule of the church. Those who wish may attend virtually by visiting www.svmnj.org.

Lucy’s interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.

As a tribute to Lucy’s love of animals, charitable contributions in Lucy’s memory may be made to the ASPCA, www.aspca.org.
