Mark Stockert posted a condolence

Joe Stockert was the younger brother of our father, Al Stockert. Both Joe and Al worked at Bell Labs. Joe started at Bell Labs before Al. In the Bell Labs phone directory both brothers were listed, Al as A.A. Stockert and Joe as J.J. Stockert. When Al died in his mid-50s Joe became our surrogate father. He was at the closing when our mother downsized her home. He walked my three sisters down the aisle at their weddings in his famous tuxedo. Joe used to come out to Naperville for work trips and always made a point to stop by my office at Bell Labs and chat. I really cherished those visits, seeing Joe and Marty at the stockert family reunions, and the visits to Joe and Marty’s home in Madison.

Dear Marty and Family: Please know that I offer to you my prayers and sympathy over the death of Joe. I so enjoyed my many conversations with Joe when I was parochial vicar at Saint Vincent. Joe was a man of great faith and great knowledge and wisdom... I am ever blessed for having known him... I will remember Joe in a Mass that I will celebrate for him. May His soul and the souls of all our departed ones rest in the peace of our God... +Blessings, Father Ron Sordillo

Please accept my sincerest condolences. Mr. Stockert was a kind man who displayed an exceptional intelligence whenever confronted with a challenge whether it was helping his son Craig repair a motorcycle or assisting the Boy Scouts of Troop 7--including me--master a rolling hitch knot.
Such generosity will live on in those who had the good fortune to know this amiable man.

Joe, Marty and I had lovely chats sometimes after Mass at St. Vincent Martyr Church. At Fairleigh Dickinson University, I enjoyed speaking with Joe about the classes we taught and the math problems he guided our students through when they requested help. He was a highly valued tutor at FDU’s Academic Support Center.

Some years ago, when our son Nils was young, we got to visit Marty and Joe in New Jersey. We still remember their warm hospitality. Joe showed us New York and it was so impressive, Nils still raves about it today!
(the mother of Joe, Mary Buecker, was the sister of my grandfather)
Our condolences go out to Marty with deep love and sympathy for your loss, we will keep Joe in great memory!

We have had the joy and good luck to meet Joe and family at our get togethers at the Short Hills Mall. We would walk, sit and have coffee and have such fun talking, especially about politics and his family. We have missed Joe and will forever miss him.
With warm thoughts to all the family.
