Obituary of Louis S. Picone

Louis S. Picone, a longtime Florham Park resident, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. He was 86.

Louis was born in Morristown on August 6, 1933 to the late James and Rose Picone (nee Prisco). He was raised in Madison and graduated from Madison High School, prior to serving in the US Army during the Korean War.

Louis was introduced to his loving wife, Maria DeTore, and after returning from the service, the couple were married on May 11, 1957. In 1965 Louis and Maria settled in Florham Park, where they raised their family.

Louis had a career as a construction mason for many years with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union Local #4 of Fairfield. He was an excellent mason and took great pride in everything he created. Louis continued his work, even after his retirement, for a total of over 50 years as a professional mason.

Louis loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid thoroughbred horseracing enthusiast and enjoyed poker nights with his dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Louis was predeceased by his daughter, Roseann Lukasik in January of 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Maria Picone (nee DeTore) of Florham Park; one son, Anthony Picone and his wife, Kathleen of Flanders; one daughter, Jamie Picone of Basking Ridge; one brother, Carmen Picone of Morris Plains; one sister, Frieda Barnklau and her husband, John of Madison; five cherished grandchildren, Jennifer & Dimitrios Penoglou, Jr., Elisa & Mike Randisi, Kendall, Kailey & Kelsey Picone; one great-grandson, Dimitrios Penoglou III; and many nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 8:30AM on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial held at Holy Family RC Church, Florham Park. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Louis’ life held on Thursday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
