Obituary of Paul "Skeeter" Mantone, Jr.

Paul "Skeeter" Mantone, Jr., a lifelong Madison resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 with his family by his side. He was 64.

Paul is survived by one sister, Lorraine Figarelli; one brother, Michael Mantone and his wife Debbie; his nieces & nephews, Pauline Figarelli, Michael Mantone & his wife Jenna, Donovan Mantone & his fiancée Lexi Biagi & Mary Cate Mantone; and many cousins & dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Paul Mantone, Sr. & Elinor Mantone (née Cucco); and his brother-in-law, Alfonse Figarelli.

Paul was born in Morristown on February 4, 1959 and was raised on Brittin Street in Madison with his brother and sister. He was a 1977 graduate of Madison High School and afterwards he went on to County College of Morris.

Paul had a career with Verizon for over 30 years as an installer, as well as a union representative for his colleagues. He was well-respected by his co-workers and always fought for what they deserved while he was a union rep.

In his retirement Paul kept very busy with several hobbies. He had a deep interest in restoring and modifying antique cars into hot rods and also for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Paul enjoyed attending car shows with his car and always drew a great deal of interest from spectators. He was a longtime member of the Rose City Rodders Car Club. He enjoyed going to Bike Week in Daytona every year with his friends as well as enjoying long rides on weekends throughout the area.  Paul also enjoyed fishing and took several fishing trips to distant locations such as Alaska.

Paul’s family and friends were paramount in his life and he always put others before himself. He had friends that he remained close with since childhood as well as friends from throughout his entire life. Paul was fun-loving, dependable, dedicated and would do anything for anyone in need. He loved life and always remained positive, even throughout his battle with cancer.

Paul will be sorely missed by all but we take comfort in knowing he is at peace.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
