Obituary of Janeen Dougherty

Janeen E. Dougherty, a longtime Morristown resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 after a long illness. She was 82.

Janeen was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 4, 1940 to the late Joseph G. and Gertrude E. Dougherty. She grew up in Pennsylvania with her sister Joanne, and obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Janeen began working at National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington DC as a medical technician in cancer research after obtaining her master’s degree. She also worked as a biology instructor at Drew University for a time, and most recently she performed cancer research for Rutger’s New Brunswick campus.

Janeen was a nature and animal lover. She was passionate about rescuing and rehabilitating cats, and she loved to grow orchids and begonias as a member of the Morristown Garden Club. Janeen loved staying active and was involved in many events with Drew University and youth services at the Presbyterian Church of Morristown.

Janeen was preceded in death by her parents Joseph G. and Gertrude E. Dougherty. She is survived by her sister Joanne Hottenstein and her companion Philip E. Quickel of Shelton, CT; and many dear friends.

Services for Janeen are being held privately for her family under the care of Madison Memorial Home. A memorial service for Janeen will be announced at a later date.
