Obituary of June Flynn

June Hope Flynn, a longtime resident of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at 103 years old on Monday, January 10, 2022.

June was born in Newark, NJ on June 18, 1918. After graduating from Columbia High School and Coleman's Business College she became a secretary with the J.L. Hammett Company of Newark, where she worked for several years.

June married William Flynn in 1941. They welcomed six children into their family and lived in St. Louis and Greenbelt, MD before settling in Florham Park in 1955. June was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family deeply and hosted them frequently in her home.

June was an avid gardener and a wonderful seamstress and made beautiful clothing for her family.  She has always loved Florham Park and was very patriotic. For over 60 years she hosted a July 4th picnic for family and friends after enjoying the parade which passed by her home.  She was very grateful that she was able to remain in the home she loved for all these years.  Even at 103 she still did her daily crossword puzzles faithfully.

In addition to her parents, Thomas and Ida Smith, June was predeceased by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Francis Flynn, Sr. in 2006; one brother, Whitfield Smith; two sisters, Pearl Smith and Viola Smith; one daughter-in-law, Kathleen Carroll Flynn; and one son-in-law, Greg Fletcher.

June will be greatly missed by her two sons, William Flynn, Jr. of O’Fallon, IL and Brian Flynn (Elizabeth) of Huntsville, AL; four daughters, Nancy Tirrell (Joseph) of Pittsfield, MA, Virginia Collins of Basking Ridge, Kathleen Ferrell of Neptune and Maureen Fletcher of Bend, OR; ten grandchildren, Kelly, Glendon, Erin, Shannon, Courtney, Megan, Caitlin, Sterling, Katie and Trevor; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate June’s life on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison followed by a 12:00PM service held at the funeral home. For the safety of all, we respectfully require that all those attending the visitation and funeral service wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.

Interment will follow at New Vernon Cemetery, New Vernon.

The family would like to thank the Florham Park First Aid Squad and the Florham Park Police Dept for their dedicated service and care to our family.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in June’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of NJ, 23 Vreeland Rd #105, Florham Park, NJ 07932 or to the Florham Park Memorial First Aid Squad, 60 Felch Rd, Florham Park, NJ 07932.
