Obituary of Rose M. Gero
Rose Margaret Gero (née Picone), age 95, died early Sunday morning, June 6, 2021 surrounded by her family’s love. She was the first of three children born to Carmen and Rose Picone and was a lifelong resident of Madison, NJ. After graduating from Madison High School, Rose married Anthony D. Gero in 1944 during the height of World War II. Soon after being married, the loving couple welcomed their son, Anthony D. Gero, Jr. who was raised and still resides in Madison.
Staying within the Madison community, Rose was a cook at both Lucy D. Anthony and Green Village Road schools. Second only to her love of children and family was her love of cooking. Rose was a masterful cook, spending decades feeding her growing family, sports teams, and any organization that was looking to feed a large crowd. If you couldn’t find her in the kitchen, you might find her outside in her yard as she was an avid gardener. Growing flowers and vegetables, Rose spent summer days attending to her garden.
Rose’s proudest moments spanned generations as she could always be seen cheering her son, grandchildren and even her great grandchildren at every sporting and school event she was able to attend.
Rose was an incredible mother and grandmother whose love for her family was immeasurable. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony D. Gero, Sr in 1982; her daughter, baby Donna Maria Gero in 1946; one sister, Natalie Siciliano; and one brother, Andrew Picone.
Rose is survived by her son, Anthony D. Gero, Jr. and his wife, Linda; three cherished grandchildren, Tony Gero, III and his wife, Jennifer; Kristen Gero McWethy and her husband, Adam; and Fred Gero and his wife, Meghan. She was also adored by her five great-grandsons, Matthew, Sam, Lucas, Jack, Dominic and her only great-granddaughter, Reagan Rose. Rose will also be missed by her brother-in-law, Peter Siciliano; sister-in-law, Louise Picone; and her many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
