Obituary of James G. DeCaro

James George DeCaro, a longtime resident of Madison, died peacefully on Thursday April 23, 2020. He was 81.

James was born in Somma Vesuviana, Italy on March 27, 1939 to the late Alfonzo and Antonia DeCaro. He was the oldest of six children and emigrated to the United States on February 3, 1956 with his father. They lived on Park Ave in Madison and James began his training as an electrician after high school. He was very talented and highly respected in his field. He had a long career with Union Carbide in Morris Township, then with Stark Electric in Morristown, prior to his retirement.

James first met his beloved wife, Lucia DeCaro (nee DeRosa) on a Circle Line Cruise in New York City. The couple were married on July 23, 1960 and settled on Cook Avenue in Madison, then to Burnet Road where they raised their family.

James was a devoted family man. He was an easy-going gentleman with a heart of gold that would help anyone in need. He was also a fighter when it came to his health and always retained a positive attitude. James loved working on electronics and was a jack of all trades. He loved a good challenge when it came to repairs and projects.

James’ memory will live on and he will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his son-in-laws, Michael Peterson and Darius Eslami. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucia DeCaro (nee DeRosa); five children, James P. DeCaro (Vida), Alphonse C. DeCaro (Linda), Carmine J. DeCaro (Wendy), Antoinette Peterson & Lucille Eslami, twelve cherished grandchildren, Marissa, Jimmy, Gina, Thomas, Lorenzo, Nicole, Sarah, Alexandra, Emily, Lillianna, Sophia and Ellena.

Funeral services will be held privately for the family. Entombment will be held at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Madison Memorial Home.
