Obituary of Donald R. Sanderson

Donald “Doal” Sanderson, a longtime Bernardsville, NJ resident died peacefully on Friday April 17, 2020. He was 85 years old.

Born, April 9, 1935 in Orange, NJ.  His family moved to Short Hills in 1953. He graduated from Clifford Scott High School, Princeton University in 1957, and the University of Michigan Law School in 1960.  He joined the law firm of Sanderson and Cullen in East Orange after graduation.  His own private practice was in Bernardsville for several decades.

Married in 1966, he resided in Harding Township, until his divorce, when he moved to Bernardsville.  He was always an active volunteer, reunion committees, Township Committee’s, the Board of Ed, NJ Historical Society, National Historic Trust, volunteering at the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills and the annual “garage sale”, or teaching English as a second language to adults through Literacy Volunteers of America.

In addition to his parents, Donald was pre-deceased by his son-in-law Jim Doherty.  He is survived by his son Douglas Sanderson (Lisa) of Madison; his daughter Jill Sanderson of Washington, DC; his sister Jane Sanderson of Phoenix, AZ; his 4 grandchildren, Emily, Paige, Pearce and Scott, and many, many good friends.

Funeral services for Donald are being held privately for the family under the direction of Madison Memorial Home.
