Obituary of William Jones

William F. (“Bill”) Jones, Jr., a longtime resident of Madison, N.J., passed away peacefully on April 11, 2020 of complications from Covid-19.  He was 68 years old.

Bill was born on June 29, 1951 in Lakehurst, NJ. The son of a Navy pilot, Bill spent his youth in a number of states across the country- New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Washington and Alaska.  He graduated from Lenape Regional High School in Medford, NJ.  He earned an A.B. from Princeton University, as well as a J.D. from Georgetown University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  He was a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Bill began his career as an attorney with Slover & Loftus in Washington, DC, before shifting his career to business.  After graduating from Wharton, he worked in corporate planning for both INA and Becton Dickinson & Company.   He then had a long career in investment management, working as an investment manager with J. Bush & Co (New York) and Keswick Management (New York), the family office of C. Douglas Dillon.  He was deeply respected for his talent and dedication by all who worked with him.

Bill was passionate about golf, and was a member of Spring Brook Country Club (“SBCC”) in Morristown, NJ for a number of years.  It was at SBCC that he had his “hole-in-one” in 2007.  He was an active Princeton alumnus and served as a class officer and member of several reunions committees.  His other interests included history and religion.

Bill was intellectually curious, kind, gentle, modest, with a very wry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, William and Frances Jones of Columbus, MS.  Bill is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Ellen Hennessy-Jones ; his sisters Judie (Mike) Kumpel of Keller, TX and Penny Sanders of Orange Park, FL; his nephews Matthew (Deadra) Kumpel of Hurst, TX and Jason (Abby) of Pittsburgh, PA and his great-nephews Joshua Kumpel and Nicholas Kumpel of Hurst, TX.

Funeral services for Bill will be held privately for his family.  Entombment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, New Jersey.
