Obituary of Barbara M. Picone

Barbara M. Picone (nee Leschinsky), of Morris Plains, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, March 22, 2019. She was 81.

Barbara was born in Newark on June 14, 1937 to the late Edward and Mary Leschinsky. She was raised in Union and was a graduate of Union High School. After Barbara married her beloved husband, Carmen M. Picone, Sr., the couple settled in Madison where they raised their beautiful family. Barbara and Carmen moved to Morris Plains in their retirement where they have lived for the past 18 years.

Barbara began her career as an administrative assistant at the Union Township Town Hall. She was employed at several professional offices throughout Morris County over the years, most recently at the Morris Plains Library, where she has been for the past 17 years. Barbara was well known for her diligence, skill and organization.

Barbara was a talented writer and had a very creative mind. She wrote many poems and even a song that was transferred to record several years ago. Barbara would thoughtfully write a meaningful poem for her family members during the holidays, or on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. She loved quilting and crafting hand-made items that she gave as gifts to family members and dear friends.

Barbara was deeply spiritual and had a special relationship with God, especially throughout her courageous battle with cancer. She prayed to St. Christopher regularly, remained strong and never gave up her faith and hope. Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother & grandmother who cherished her family and loved them dearly. Her warmth and loving presence will be deeply missed and always remembered.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her son-in-law, Bob Erskine in 1995. She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 60 years, Carmen M. Picone, Sr. of Morris Plains; two loving daughters, Michelle Picone-Erskine and her fiancé, Dave Ellis of Franklin Lakes & April Picone and her fiancé, Greg Munker of AZ; one loving son, Carmen M. Picone, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Roxbury; six cherished grandchildren, James Erskine, Ashley Woytkiw, Karl Erskine, Carmen Picone, III, Anestasia Munker & Nathan Munker.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Barbara’s life on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. All may gather on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 10AM at the funeral home for a brief visitation prior to a funeral service beginning at 11AM at the funeral home. Cremation will be held privately at the family’s request.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or online at the American Cancer Society Website
