Obituary of Maureen A. Snyder

Maureen A. Snyder (nee McTernan), of Flemington, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 28, 2019 surrounded by the love of her family. She was 80.

Maureen was born in Riverdale, NY on September 27, 1938 to the late James and Ann McTernan. She was raised in Riverdale and attended college at Mt. St. Vincent College in Riverdale.

Maureen enjoyed spending summers in Spring Lake, NJ in her younger years with her close friends. She was introduced to Donald C. Snyder in 1966 by some dear friends and the couple were married on April 25, 1970. In 1974 Maureen and Donald settled in the Somerville/Bridgewater area, where they raised their beautiful family. They lived there until 2005 when they relocated to Flemington.

Maureen was an insurance underwriter with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., prior to transitioning to caring for her family full-time when her children were born. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and making life comfortable for them. Maureen cared for her elderly mother with loving care for many years and adored her six grandchildren. She loved the NY Yankees and was a considerable fan of Mickey Mantle in her younger years, then Derek Jeter in more recent years.

Maureen had a special relationship with God and she let her strong faith be her guide throughout life. She was a parishioner of St. Magdalen RC Church in Flemington.

Maureen is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Donald C. Snyder of Flemington; her two devoted daughters, Donna Snyder of Whippany & Karyn Snyder-Collins and her husband, Stephen of Madison; and six cherished grandchildren, Ciara, Cinaed, Cillian, Connor, Kevin & Shannon.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church in Madison, led by Rev. Msgr. George Hundt. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that charitable contributions be made in Maureen’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
