Obituary of Donald K. Zack
Donald Keith Zack, a longtime Chatham Township resident, passed away peacefully at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center on Thursday, February 7, 2019. He was 58.
Don was born in East Orange on January 28, 1961 to the late Chester and Mary Zack. He was raised in the North Ward of Newark and in 1980 he would meet his future wife and life long love, Carmela A. Zack (nee Basilone). The couple married in 1984 and lived in Jersey City for 6 years, prior to settling in Chatham Township in 1990.
Don earned his Bachelor of Science degree in math and computer science from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City. He had a long career in financial services and was a natural team leader. His career included assignments at Banker's Trust, AT&T, and Broadridge. He was most recently a project director with Dun & Bradstreet.
Don was a faith-filled man and parishoner at Corpus Christi Church. He cherished time spent with his family & friends. He was especially proud of his son, Nicholas. Don enjoyed grilling and cooking meals that brought everyone together. He was an avid golfer and longtime NY Giants football fan.
Don was highly skilled at home renovations. He acted as his own general contractor for several beautiful renovations at his family home. Don’s good nature and warm personality will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Carmela A. Zack (nee Basilone) of Chatham Twp.; his cherished son, Nicholas A. Zack of Chatham Twp., one brother, Daniel Zack (Margaret) of Valley Cottage, NY; two sisters, Diane Breese (Les) of Monmouth Junction & Andrea Avallone (Orey) of Point Pleasant; many nieces and nephews, one great-niece, and numerous dear friends.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial led by Fr. Lemmuel Camacho celebrated at Corpus Christi RC Church, Chatham. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather to celebrate Don’s life at a visitation held on Monday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
