Obituary of Florence Mazzarisi

Florence Mazzarisi (nee Marinaccio), a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 25, 2018. She was 97.

Florence was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 10, 1921 to the late Crescenzo and Antoinette Marinaccio. She lived in Boston for a time with her family and in 1928 they moved to Madison.

Florence lived her life devoted to church and her beloved family. She was a parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church since 1928 and she helped to maintain the church for over 70 years, remaining active up until the summer of 2018, when her health declined. She was a longtime member of the Rosary Society and for many years she laundered and pressed the linen chalice purificators of the church. Florence also dedicated some of her time each month to the church ministry that assists in preparing and serving food to the homeless at the soup kitchen in Morristown.  She was dedicated to making life comfortable for her beloved family and loved preparing meals for family and friends, especially during the holidays. Florence will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.

Florence is predeceased by her beloved husband, Alfred S. Mazzarisi; three sisters, Grace, Rose & Mary; two brothers, Benjamin & Carmen. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Deelsnyder & Elayne Catey and her husband, Doug; one brother, Frank Marinaccio; three grandchildren, Christopher Deelsnyder (Pamela), Lori Campbell (John) & Robert Deelsnyder (Susan) ; seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Katelyn, Meghan, Jordan, Shelby, Emily & Sam; six great-great-grandchildren, Mason, Brayden, Lucas, Oliver, Finley & Tucker; many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Florence’s life on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
