Obituary of James F. Sapio

James Frank Sapio, a lifelong Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Pine Acres. He was 83.

James was born in Madison on July 22, 1935 to the late Frank and Anne Sapio and had many fond memories of his upbringing in Madison. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father in his younger years. James was a graduate of Madison High School and shortly after graduation answered the country’s call to service. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953 through 1955.

After returning from the war, James began his training as an excavator. He worked for many years as a backhoe operator first with public service, then with several private construction companies. James also had several private clients that he did excavating work for over the years. In his retirement, James enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He spent many hours working in his garden and pruning trees at his home.

James is predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Brianna Sapio and his best friend, Mary Dwyer. He leaves behind his three sons, Michael Sapio and his wife, Lisa of Madison, John Sapio and his wife, Amy of Rockaway & James Sapio, Jr.; one brother, Tommy Sapio and his wife, Beth of Austin, TX; two sisters, Beverly Emory of Mendham & Linda Stone of PA; ten cherished grandchildren, Michael, Tommy, Kaleigh, Brenna, Alexandra, Dominique, Natasha, Jonathan, Vincent & Angelica; one great-granddaughter, Skylar; and two loving nieces, Michelle Harper and Denise Russo.
