Obituary of Joseph Scarlata

Joseph Scarlata, a longtime Florham Park resident, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 73.

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joan Scarlata (nee Herman) of Florham Park; his two loving daughters, Kim Ubertino and her husband Glenn, of North Carolina & Kristi Ward and her husband, John of Budd Lake; his three cherished grandchildren, Serafina Ward, Marley Ubertino & Ryan Ubertino; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was born in Newark on December 2, 1944 to the late Sebastian and Maria Scarlata. He was raised in Newark and after his marriage to Joan, the couple lived in Irvington for a short time before moving to Hillside. They then moved to Florham Park where they have lived for over 40 years. 

Joseph was a very talented carpenter and loved woodworking. He had a tremendous eye for detail and enjoyed restoring antique furniture. Before retiring, he had a long career as a carpenter with the Marvic Corporation of Union for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the New Jersey shore and in the Poconos. He was also a parishioner of Long Hill Chapel in Chatham for many years.

All may gather at 9:00AM on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, prior to the procession to Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, where a 10:30AM funeral service will be held. Entombment will be held after the service. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Joseph’s life on Monday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the funeral home.
