Obituary of James R. Zotti

James R. Zotti, a longtime Chatham resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 88.

James was born in Summit on January 18, 1930 to the late Carmen and Mary Zotti. He was raised in Summit and was a graduate of St. Teresa of Avila School and Summit High School. James served his country honorably, completing one tour in the US Army and one in the US Air Force. After being honorably discharged, James returned home and he and his beloved wife, Grace Zotti (nee Scimpf) settled in Irvington with their young family. The family then would move to Chatham Township over 30 years ago where they have resided since.

James was an executive of professional relations with Blue Cross & Blue Shield Insurance of Newark for over thirty years. He was responsible for the critical relations between physicians and the insurance company. He retired in 1991.  

James was the past commander of the American Legion Post 16 of Essex County. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees & Giants. James also loved cooking and baking for family and friends.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Grace Zotti (nee Schimpf) of Chatham; his two sons, James Zotti of Chatham & Dr. Robert Zotti and his wife, Tristi of Hermantown, MN; two brothers, Richard Zotti of Orlando, FL & Robert Zotti of Nebraska; four cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Rhianna, Alexis & Tylor; and several nieces, nephews and good friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to celebrate James’ life held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, with a 10:40AM prayer service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors held at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that charitable contributions be made in James’ memory to the American Cancer Society, 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123
