Obituary of Louis J. Ammirato, Sr.
Louis J. Ammirato, Sr., a longtime Florham Park resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 after a long illness. He was 87.
Louis was born and raised on Cross Street in Madison and moved to Florham Park 40 years ago with his family, where they have resided since. He was a dedicated husband, father & grandfather that worked hard his entire life to make life comfortable for his family. Louis had a career spanning 45 years in public service with PSE&G in Summit. He was also a very devout man, regularly attending Sunday Mass at St. Vincent’s with his beloved wife.
Louis loved softball. He played for many years on several teams in the Madison area, including the Beerman All-Stars. He will be fondly remembered for his knowledge, guidance and dedication coaching girls softball for many years in Madison. He also enjoyed spending time with his many good friends at the North Star Club and the Forum Club of Madison. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.
Louis is predeceased by his parents, Gaetano and Maria Ammirato; his two brothers, James & Anthony (Tony); two sisters, Josephine (Dolly) & Raphaella. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Edith Ammirato (nee Barone); one son, Louis Ammirato, Jr. (Beverly); one daughter, Maryanne DiTaranto (Jerry); three cherished grandchildren, Louie, Michael & Lisa; many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Louis’ life from 8:30AM to 10:30AM on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will celebrated at 11:00AM, after the visitation on Saturday, at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison led by Fr. Darwin Lastra. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
