Obituary of Donald Joseph Hart
Donald J. Hart, 94, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Madison.
Donald was born on November 13, 1923 in the Bronx to the late Benjamin and Philomena Hart. He was raised in the Bronx and lived there for many years as a young adult. Donald served honorably during the Korean War.
While at a camp in upstate New York, Donald first met his best friend and wife, Doris. The couple were engaged in six months and have been married happily since. The couple would eventually settle in Pequannock where they would raise their family. They became very active in the community with Donald serving two terms as councilman in Pequannock. The couple was very involved with the Peqaunnock Senior Citizen's Club and enjoyed being active members of the bridge club. In 1994, Donald and Doris decided to purchase land in Berlin, MD and build a home. They lived in Berlin, MD for 25 years and would become very involved in the community. They helped to plan trips by bus to NYC to Broadway shows for the senior citizens and were very active with the AARP. Donald and Doris also loved to travel in their retirement.
Before retiring 30 years ago, Donald was a manager with the NY Telephone Co. in NYC for many years.
Donald was predeceased by his brother, James Hart. He is survived by his wife, Doris Hart (nee Scharnett) of Madison; one son, David Hart and his wife, Mary Jane of Madison; two daughters, Tami Hart of Wayne & Katherine Beard and her husband, Ronald of Hockessin, DE; and six cherished grandchildren, Tyler Warden, Bryce Warden, Monica Beard, Jacqueline Beard, Fiona Hart & Elise Hart.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a memorial visitation held to celebrate Donald's life on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. A military honors service followed by a service of rememberance will begin at 3:30PM during the visiting hours on Saturday.
Please omit flowers, instead the family has asked that charitable contributiuons be made in Donald's memory to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
