Obituary of Fabio Velez

Fabio Velez, a longtime Madison resident, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 75.

Fabio was born in Pereira, Colombia on September 28, 1942 to the late Jose Luis and Laura Velez. He lived in Florham Park and Chatham before moving to Madison 20 years ago. Fabio was a very talented chef at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park for 40 years, before retiring recently. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and took great pride in creating gourmet meals, specializing in Italian cuisine. Fabio cherished any opportunity he could spend time with his family and friends. He was a tremendous soccer fan and enjoyed playing the sport for many years. He also had a great appreciation for music.

Fabio leaves behind his beloved wife, Norma Velez (nee Ocampo); his son, Oscar Velez of Madison; one brother, Jose Luis Velez and his wife Amparo, of Rahway; four sisters, Mercedes Velez of Queens, NY, Amparo Velez of Queens, NY, Irma Cortez and her husband Bernardo, of South Carolina, Rosemary Perez and her husband Jose, of Queens, NY; one niece & several nephews; and many good friends.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church in Madison. Cremation will be held privately.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation to celebrate Fabio’s life from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
