Obituary of Janet Kay
Janet M. Kay (nee Piner), a long-time Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Lantern Hill Retirement Community in New Providence. She was 81.
Born in Chicago in 1935, Janet lived in Arlington Heights, IL prior to moving to Madison in 1972. Janet spent her life caring for her beloved family and took great pride in her home. She also spent a great deal of time organizing and assisting with local fundraisers and many charitable causes, especially through the Thursday Morning Club of Madison, in which she was a very active member. Janet enjoyed playing golf and tennis at Fairmount Country Club, visiting her house in Vermont, gardening, bridge games with friends, board games and puzzles with family, attending local and NYC theater events, and will also be fondly remembered as an expert haggler while shopping.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert Kay; her parents, Anthony and Mabel Piner (nee Hjertstedt); and a brother, Charles Piner. She leaves behind her four sons, Stephen Kay of Scottsdale, AZ, and wife Fujimi, Lawrence Kay of Dunedin, FL, and wife, Elise, Christopher Kay of Sudbury, MA, and wife, Kendall, and Peter Kwasniewski of Lander, WY, and wife Clarissa; two daughters, Margaret Stortz of Morristown, and Patricia Eglowstein of Kernersville, NC, and husband, Steven; one sister, Mary Ann Zimmerman of Peoria, IL; and 11 cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Christina, Justin, Jamie, Robert, Ethan, Griffin, Emily, Cole, Julian, and Rose.
Funeral services will begin at 9:45AM on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:45AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Interment will follow at St. Vincent's Cemetery, Madison. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday at the funeral home.
