Obituary of James J. McCloskey
James J. McCloskey, a long-time Madison resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, April 7, 2017 at his home. He was 82.
James was born and raised in Scranton, PA. He lived in Binghamton, NY and Florham Park before moving to Madison in 1961. James was a maintenance and production foreman at Automatic Switch Co. in Florham Park, before his retirement in 1997.
James was a proud US Army veteran and he served the community as volunteer firefighter with the Madison Fire Department for over 30 years. He was a member of the Madison/Florham Park Knights of Columbus and the Madison Elks Club, holding every office the Elks have over the years. James was a member of the NJ Exempt Fireman's Association and he volunteered his time at Morristown Medical Center. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling with his wife.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Isadore McCloskey, and his two sisters, Grace Carpentier and Patricia Gerrity. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Madeline McCloskey (nee Sorrentino); two sons, Kevin McCloskey of Flanders, and his wife Donna, and Brian McCloskey of Whippany; one daughter, Sandra Nazario of Tobyhanna, PA, and her husband Andre; one brother, Thomas McCloskey of Milford, PA, and his wife Sally; 7 grandchildren, Brendan, Kaitlin, Matthew, Conor, Ryan, Shea, and Remy; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Nicholas, and Nola.
Funeral services will begin at 8:45AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More RC Church, Convent Station. Entombment to follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
