Obituary of Richard Nikiel

Richard V. Nikiel of the Convent Station section of Morris Township, N.J., died on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at the Morristown Medical Center. He was 87.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. from the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main St. Madison, with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, Convent Station, N.J. Interment is in Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown. Visitation is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Nikiel was born in Bronx, N.Y., and lived in Florham Park, N.J., then Dallas, Texas, before moving to Convent Station 40 years ago. Mr. Nikiel was a national sales director for Canon Inc. in Lake Success, N.Y., for 10 years before retiring in 1996. Prior to this he worked for RCA for 23 years and Burroughs Corp for six years. He received his B.S. degree in engineering from Notre Dame University and two masters, one in industrial engineering and the other in electrical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.

He was a member of St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison, N.J., where he was a member of their Funeral Liturgy Committee, their Pre- Cana, and their Eucharistic Ministry.

Richard is survived by his wife, Helen (nee Dalton); his children, Richard (Jan), Mary Patricia Davies (William), Thomas (Anita), Robert (Tricia), Jeanne TenBarge (David), Christopher; 18 grandchildren, Danielle, Collette, T.J., Kevin H., Michelle, Will Jr., Kristen, Lauren, Sean, Matthew, Jonathan, Thomas, Andrew, Emma, Alex, Libby, Brian, Kevin N., and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Paul Jackson Fund, P.O. Box 2014, Westfield , N.J. 07091-2014 in his memory would be appreciated.
