Obituary of Antonia Sangillo

Antonia Sangillo (née Boni), of Madison (former longtime Morristown resident), was at home surrounded by her family when her soul was called home to rest on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. She was 93.

Antonia is survived by her son, Stephen Sangillo (Karen); two grandchildren, Jenna Michele Davie (Christopher) & Mason Alexander Sangillo; two great-grandchildren, Christopher & Hunter; and several nieces, nephews & dear friends.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dominick Sangillo; and one son, Frank B. Sangillo.

Antonia was born in Supino, Italy and in 1947 emigrated to the United States as a teenager with her family. The family settled in a close-knit Italian-American neighborhood in Jersey City and Antonia began working as a seamstress. The value of family, faith and hard work were engrained in Antonia and her sisters by her parents at a young age.

Antonia met her husband Dominick, who lived in Union City, and after their marriage they moved to Morristown in 1963 where they raised their two sons, Frank and Stephen. Antonia and Dominick established a neighborhood grocery store in Morristown named “La Rinasente”. Together they worked hard and were very proud of what they had accomplished. After their retirement they moved to Madison and she was a member of St. Vincent Martyr for over twenty years.

Antonia was a deeply faithful Catholic with a truly generous heart. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Church in Morristown for many years.

Antonia found joy and contentment in her retirement taking care of children. She helped several families over the years by caring for their children over a span of many years and was proud to see them grow up to be successful adults.

Antonia had a special place in her heart for the simple pleasures of family and food. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed showing her love and affection through her food. Antonia was happiest when everyone was together in her home. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Antonia will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her incredible contributions to our lives and the lives of many others.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation for Antonia to be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
