Dear Family of Jeffrey Maca, I first met Jeff as a work colleague at Novartis back in 2005 when I was working as a clinical development physician on FTY720 and now known as Gilenya for MS patients. He struck me as a kind soul, brilliant with many interests and we would see each other like clockwork because we both shared the responsibility of working with the FTY720 Data Monitoring Committee (chaired by Dr. J. Donald Easton and included other very esteemed academic physicians in all different specialties and a single academic statistician), who by charter, had to meet every six months, either in NJ/NYC or in Zurich. One of my fondest memories is sitting at the bar in the Widder Hotel in Zurich and listening to live jazz with Jeff one fine evening. He was also an avid photographer (he once accidentally left his camera bag at the Zurich Marriott and it's the only time I ever saw him stressed). I only learned today Oct 17, 2024 of his passing (much too soon) from a fellow Novartis colleague Peter M. and I was profoundly saddened. Nonetheless, he will remain in our collective happy memories.
Go jump in the Limmat, Jeff, you know what I mean! And a picture for you Jeff, our DMC friends at the closeout Nov 2017 Zurich www.hotelstgotthard.ch/en/home

Words cannot express the depths of my sadness.
I have know Jeff for many years, since he joined Novartis back in 1997. He often told stories of his travels, music, home improvement and more. He had a breath and depth of knowledge on more topics than anyone I ever met before or since. That made him our go to person for most questions.
May God give his family strength and peace in this difficult time.
I will miss you my friend. Until we meet again.

Dear Maca family, I am very sorry for your loss: I can't imagine the echo of the empty space left by this very special man. I worked closely with Jeff on several clinical projects at Novartis. We spent parts of our time delving in the statistics of patient populations and the other part chatting about life and nature. When my son developed a wasp phobia, Jeff guided me in understanding how I could minimize wasp visits in my garden without endangering other flying friends, walking around his property with his camera to show me tricks and problems. My chats with Jeff were very special and serene, a welcome break in the day. Thanks for our talks, Jeff - you have left a mark.

I knew Jeff in High School. We rode the bus and lived within a few blocks of each other.
So many memories.
Apple II games and BBSes, riding our ten speed bikes to LSU-S to play tennis and swim in the pool, collect stuff from a creek near our houses for his acquarium...hanging out and watching music videos.
I have a clear memory of seeing 'Material Girl' at Jeff's house for one of the first times...I think Jeff had a type IYKWIM. ;)
Hadn't really talked much outside of FB but so many good memories in that well.

Jeff was a kind, gentle, and smart statistician with a strong passion for music too. I had the privilege of being one of his former colleagues and I wish the time had been longer. Wish him rest in peace and may his melodies continue in the heaven.

Words cannot express the sadness I feel with your passing, Jeff. You brought so much light and kindness into my life and the lives of so many others. We were colleagues and good friends for over a decade while working together at Quintiles and Bayer. So many memories and stories... I was trying to find more pictures, but found just this one from China - it was right after we climbed a Great Wall (everyone was pretty tired). Your friendship was a true blessing, and I will forever cherish the memories we shared. Rest in peace, my dear friend. You are deeply missed.
My heart goes out to your family during this incredibly difficult time. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and them.

It was an honor and privilege to know and perform with Jeff. He was a wonderful talent, who shared my love of jazz. We had many terrific conversations about music (and life). I hoped that one day, we could sit and play through the countless jazz standards we chatted about. During performances, I knew that I could count on him to be creative, insightful, and listening. When the time came to play music, Jeff never let me down. Although soft spoken, he had a clever and witty sense of humor that was always right on point. Jeff, I miss you terribly already. The angels have got themselves a pretty good musician to work with. Rest easy brother.

What I wouldn’t give to play one more game, go on one more hike, or discuss the brisket on the smoker.
Praying for strength for your loving family
I miss you, my friend.

Jeff was such a good guy!
He was like a big brother to me at graduate school at Texas A&M and I got to catch up with him many years at Joint Statistical Meetings, but sadly not since before the pandemic.
I will miss him, and pray for his wife and kids, for their comfort at this time!

Jeff was a great friend to me during graduate school at A&M. He even invited me to a family fishing trip. He was first class.
