John and my friendship spanned 51 years. Little did we know that when I delivered a UPS package to Elliott Chevrolet in South Orange to him as parts manager in 1972 our lives would be linked for so long. Our mutual interest in hunting and fishing would be the cement that solidified the relationship. John’s knowledge of and use of firearms always intrigued and impressed me. He was truly a master gunsmith. He was as skilled and knowledgeable as a fisherman. It was my pleasure to net a lot of his trophy fish for him. We had great experiences hunting Roy’s Farm in Andover and in the Catskills. The Adirondacks were a favorite fishing destination along with the Shohola River in PA. It was there that once, Charlie and John-John took advantage of John’s and my concentration on landing some fish, to eat a whole bucket of chicken meant for the four of us. Our lives were further intertwined when, early on, we found out, much to our surprise, and our wives’, that they knew each other. Beverly and Sylvia knew each other growing up one block from each other in Newark and, attended the same elementary and high school. The arrival of Danny and Erik, who became our godson, fulfilled the blessings of the Grand Plan that none of us could have imagined. “Tight lines,” John. Bill
