Obituary of William J. Verge

William “Bill” Verge of Florham Park, NJ and Sebastian, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday January 21st. He was 89.

Bill was born September 30, 1934 in Brooklyn NY.  He lived in Brooklyn his entire childhood until he left for college at RPI in 1952. While at RPI,  Mr. Verge was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and participated in the ROTC program. Upon graduating as a Mechanical engineer, he entered the USAF.  He spent 3 years active in the Air Force and was stationed in France.  He remained in the reserves until 1972.  Bill also received his MBA from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Bill and his family settled in Florham Park around 1969.  He was an active volunteer in Florham Park for more than 30 years beginning with the Recreation Commission and then the Board of Adjustment, Police Commissioner and ultimately serving on the Town Council.  Mr. Verge held many sales and management jobs over the years, ultimately settling into his own business, Color Four, Inc. in Parsippany, NJ.

Bill enjoyed tennis and paddle tennis as well as boating and golf.  He was an avid collector and loved cars, especially restoring them with his son.  Most of all he loved travelling and spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Verge was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eva who passed away in September 2021.  He is survived by his son Douglas and his wife Catherine Coloff of Randolph, NJ, his daughters, Susan Kaminski of Branchburg and Cindy Hand and her husband, Stephen also of Branchburg.  Mr. Verge is also survived by 7 grandchildren- Kevin, Jeffrey and Brandon Kaminski, Sarah, Melissa and Scott Hand and Alex Verge as well as his great grandson, Jason Kaminski.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main St, Madison, NJ  07940. 

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Mr. Verge's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
