To my third cousins ---John, Joseph, Stacy, Matthew and Gregory, and spouses- Tammy, and Jason, and all of your wonderful children, and Anne Marie, his sister, and cousin Joanne, who grew up as a little sister to Joey as well, my deepest and heartfelt condolences.
This is a great loss for all of you, and the rest of the family. and for me as well. Joey was like a very older brother to me, and a huge presence in my life.
Your dad, my mom's cousin, was a huge presence in my life since I was born, living across the hall in a Bronx apartment building for the first 12 years of my life. ( Until he was 28 )!
He mercilessly teased me, took me places that were special, spent time with me at the Staten Island bungalow, and got me to rewrite his notes when he was in law school. Memories I will always cherish.
Joey was full of life and love. He was extremely humorous and affectionate, and he brightened all of our days, and all of our lives.
He would light up the room and I am sure he was an amazing and effective litigator. He loved a good fight- just for the hell of it!
His mom, Anna, and his great aunts - Caroline and Yolanda - showered him with incredible amounts of attention --and food, as only a good Italian son can be! He truly embodied _ " My Son, My Son"! But he also gave back..
He loved a good party, and great food and he did a "mean lindy", which I last enjoyed with him at Phil's 70th in 2012!
He was so intelligent, achieving so much coming from humble beginnings. I believe he went to college- ccny, and then into the navy, and then on to law school, at 25 or 26 years old.
I can vividly recall how excited we all were when he would return on furlough.
He was truly a family star and brought great happiness and love into all of our lives.
He is already sorely missed here on earth, but I am sure has been welcomed with open arms by all that loved him , and went before him, that are already up in heaven.
Rest in Peace beloved cousin!
