She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 42 years, James David Brock, in 2009; an infant daughter, Carrie Anne Brock; one brother, Jeff Long; and one sister-in-law, Linda Long.
Susan was born in Montclair on August 29, 1938, to the late Fred and Elizabeth Long (née Hultberg). She grew up in Glen Ridge and was a graduate of Glen Ridge High School. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science from Middlebury College in Vermont and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

The family moved to Madison, New Jersey in 1979 after another transfer. Jim and Susan remained in Madison until Jim retired in 1996, after which the couple moved to Williamsburg, Virginia.
Susan was an avid crafter and especially enjoyed sewing and quilting, and she loved vacationing at her summer home in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She also was very proud of the fact that she was a contestant on the game show “Jeopardy” in the 60’s.
