Obituary of Susan L. Brock

Susan Long Brock of Williamsburg, Virginia, formerly of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Williamsburg Landing in Williamsburg. She was 85.

Susan is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Elizabeth Caramagno and her husband Daniel of Westfield; her cherished grandchildren, Alex and Joshua Caramagno; one brother, Steve Long; her sister-in-law, Carol Long; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Bob Page; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 42 years, James David Brock, in 2009; an infant daughter, Carrie Anne Brock; one brother, Jeff Long; and one sister-in-law, Linda Long.

Susan was born in Montclair on August 29, 1938, to the late Fred and Elizabeth Long (née Hultberg). She grew up in Glen Ridge and was a graduate of Glen Ridge High School. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science from Middlebury College in Vermont and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Susan met her husband, Jim, at First Baptist Church, Bloomfield, NJ and the couple married in 1967.  Following Jim's job transfer in 1969, Jim and Susan relocated to Houston, TX and soon welcomed their beloved daughter, Mary Elizabeth.  The family moved to Madison, New Jersey in 1979 after another transfer. Jim and Susan remained in Madison until Jim retired in 1996, after which the couple moved to Williamsburg, Virginia.

Susan was an avid crafter and especially enjoyed sewing and quilting, and she loved vacationing at her summer home in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She also was very proud of the fact that she was a contestant on the game show “Jeopardy” in the 60’s.

A committal service for Susan will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Hanover Cemetery, 30-72 Hanover Road in East Hanover.
