Obituary of Lajunta Hurt

Lajunta Hurt, a longtime Madison resident, died peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Brightview Assisted Living in Randolph. She was 91.

Lajunta was born in Plum Branch, South Carolina on June 1, 1932 to the late James and Hattie Freeland. She was raised in South Carolina with her Sister Betty Jean Hill and two brothers, Tommy, and Jimmy Freeland.

Lajunta married her beloved husband, Heyward Hurt and the couple eventually settled in Madison, NJ in 1966, where they raised their two sons, Wayne and Bruce Hurt.

Lajunta was a kind-hearted woman who always gave a helping hand to others. She had a warm, giving nature and she helped countless people throughout her life. Lajunta loved to volunteer her time with several charitable and civic organizations in the Madison area, and she was also very active in politics.

Lajunta loved her family deeply, and she enjoyed traveling and socializing. She made a positive impact on many lives through her generosity and help, which will be forever remembered by all whose lives she made better. She will be deeply missed.

Lajunta is survived by her two sons, Bruce Hurt and his wife Cheryl & Wayne Hurt; two brothers, Tommy and his wife Carolyn Freeland & Jimmy and his wife Joyce Freeland; four cherished grandchildren, Megan Brown and her husband JB, Brandon Hurt, Bruce Hurt Jr., & McKenzie Hurt; many nieces and nephews, and numerous good friends.  She was predeceased by her sister Betty Jean Hill and husband Heyward Hurt. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Brightview and Hospice for the wonderful care they gifted to LaJunta. 

A private memorial service for Lajunta will be held in South Carolina at a later date.
