Obituary of Edward A. Mallaney, Jr.

Edward "Eddie" Anthony Mallaney, Jr., a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in Manhattan after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 68.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife, Grace Marie Mallaney (née Magnier) of Madison; two sons, Edward A. Mallaney, III and Stephen T. Mallaney; one daughter, Lauren Mallaney; one brother, Joseph Mallaney and his wife Barbara; four sisters, Maura Mallaney and her husband John Perini, Nancy Phillips and her husband David, Frances McCarthy and her husband James, and Patricia Downey and her husband Christopher; and one additional brother-in-law, Gary Trees.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Anthony Mallaney and Cathleen Angela Mallaney (née Rooney); and one sister, Cathleen Mallaney Trees.

Eddie was born in White Plains, NY on May 6, 1954 and was raised in Short Hills with his brother and five sisters. He was a graduate of Millburn High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from St. Leo University in Florida.

After graduating college Eddie began his lifelong career in finance, practicing at several banks including Merrill Lynch and most recently UBS Wealth Management in Florham Park. Eddie was well-respected and deeply devoted to his work. He had a gracious way of impacting so many around him, as evidenced by the many trusted relationships he forged with his clients over the years.

Eddie was married to his beloved wife Grace at Christ the King Church in 1999 and the couple settled in Madison, where they raised their family and were active in the community. Eddie had a tremendous faith and was a parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church.

Eddie was a vibrant man who loved life. He was sociable, strong-willed and was always willing to help others in need. Eddie was a wonderful father, husband, brother and friend. He was deeply committed to his children and loved attending their sporting events, as well as their friends’ sporting events.

When he was not spending time with his family or working, he enjoyed traveling extensively. Eddie was an avid golfer and longtime member of Morris County CC. He was also a member of the Summit Elks Club for many years.

Although Eddie will be deeply missed by all, his family takes consolation in knowing that he is at peace with the Lord.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation for Eddie held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00 AM at the funeral home on Friday, March 17, 2023, prior to a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM at the Church of Christ the King, 16 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon, NJ 07976.
