Obituary of Joseph Amato
Joseph Amato, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Chatham Hills Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
Joseph was born in Madison on December 24, 1933 to the late Genaro and Nicolina Amato (nee Columbro). He grew up in Madison and was a life-long resident. Joseph was an auto mechanic for many years with B & B Sunoco in Whippany, prior to his retirement. He had a vast knowledge of mechanics and could fix just about anything. In his retirement, he worked for several years as a school crossing guard for the Borough of Madison. Joseph was also an avid golfer and a member of the Madison Northstars. Above all, he enjoyed spending any time he could with his cherished family.
Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas Amato, and his sister, Mary Landolfi. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Camille Amato (nee Melchione) of Madison; his two daughters, Lisa Amato of Madison, and Theresa Cox of Budd Lake, and her husband, Robert; his three sons, Jerry Amato of Madison, and his wife, Lorraine, Joseph Amato of Bordentown, and his wife, Lora, and Dan Amato of Robbinsville, and his wife, Jacqueline; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
Funeral services will begin at 8:15AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 9:15AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday from 4PM to 8PM at the funeral home.
