Carmine "Sonny" Catalano, a lifelong Madison resident, died peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022 with his beloved family at his side. He was 89. Sonny is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Barbara Catalano (née Boehm), two sons, Carmine Catalano, Jr. & Christopher Catalano and his wife Eileen; two daughters, Kim DiLauri and her husband Michael & Cindy Marie Mohr and her husband Darrick; nine grandchildren, Michael, Brianna, Heather, Carmine D., Daniel, Denielle, Michael, Stephanie & Darrick, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his five brothers, Dominic, Louis, Nicholas, Gabriel and Jack Catalano; and two sisters, Rose Romano and Mary Piana. Sonny was born in Morristown on October 14, 1932 to the late Concetto and Lucy Catalano, and he was raised on North Street in Madison with his seven siblings. He served in the US Army prior to his honorable discharge, after which he served several years in the National Guard. Sonny was married to his wife Barbara on February 25, 1956 and the young couple settled in Madison. They welcomed two sons and two daughters into their family. Sonny was a master electrician and was a member of Union Local 102 in Parsippany before retiring thirty years ago. Prior to that he worked for the Borough of Madison Electric Department as a lineman, as well as Drew University and the State of New Jersey as an electrician. He was a mentor to younger electricians and always took pride in teaching less experienced colleagues the trade. Sonny was a natural musician and was an extremely talented bass guitarist. He loved playing for family and friends at special events and gatherings. Sonny also loved sports and was one of the founders of Little League Football in Madison. In his younger years he played semi-pro football for the Summit Titans and the Rockaway Irondukes. Sonny’s experience and knowledge of sports made him a natural coach. He coached at Bayley Ellard and also at Fairleigh Dickinson University. In his retirement Sonny loved to travel throughout the United States with Barbara in their travel trailer. He was an avid gardener and loved to give away his fruits and vegetables to family and friends. Sonny’s most proud achievement was that of a father and “pop-pop”. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who loved his family dearly and devoted all the time and energy he could to his children and his grandchildren. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Sonny’s life held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1:00PM to 3:30PM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, NJ, followed by a funeral service held at 3:30PM at the funeral home.*For the safety of all, we respectfully require that all those attending the visitation and funeral services wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.* Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please make charitable contributions in Sonny’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Scope of Limitations and Disclaimers. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
