Obituary of Elizabeth B. Tyree

Elizabeth B. Tyree, of Stroudsburg  PA and former lifelong resident of Madison, NJ, peacefully departed this earthly life on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the age of 94.

Elizabeth, affectionately known as Liz, was born in Morristown, NJ on January 23, 1927 to the late Gus Reeves and Frances Bryant. She was one of three daughters.

Liz was raised in Madison, NJ and received her early childhood education at Central Ave Elementary School and graduated from Madison High School.

She was married to George Tyree, Sr. and they settled and raised their family in Madison as well. From this union, three children were born, two daughters, Elizabeth & Charlene, and one son, George J. Tyree, III. Elizabeth was a wonderful wife, mother and devoted friend.

Elizabeth had a fulfilling career working for Greystone Park State Hospital located in Morris Plains, NJ in the nutrition department before retiring in 1986. After retirement, Liz worked for Mrs. Hurley and Mrs. Deacon of Morris Plains for many years.  During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time at church, the American Legion, and shopping with her friends. Liz was also an avid traveler. She and her sister Doris would travel to Canada, New Orleans, Cape May, and different Jazz Festivals every year for their annual trips.

Elizabeth was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Madison. She was a familiar and friendly face at church, was active with her church family and took part in church events regularly; Liz loved to help organize church events and celebrations. She was always eager and willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need.

Liz was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents and her two sisters, Louise Foster and Doris Hayes, Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband, George J. Tyree, Sr. in 1981 and her dear son, George J. Tyree, III in January 2021. She is survived by two loving daughters, Charlene Woods and her husband, Bobby of Morristown, NJ & Elizabeth Brown of Stroudsburg, PA; two grandsons Robert Woods and his wife, Samantha Woods & William Woods; one great-granddaughter & three great-grandsons; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 8:45AM to 9:45AM at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison followed by a 9:45AM homegoing service held at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the funeral service will be limited to 50 people. The funeral service may be attended virtually by visiting the livestream link: https://livestream.com/aritonvideolive/tyree at 9:45AM on Saturday. Interment will follow at St. Vincent's Cemetery, Madison.
