Obituary of Emilia Ciccarelle

Emilia Ciccarelle, a longtime Summit resident, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the age of 91.

Emilia was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy on December 8, 1929 to the late Ilario and Maria Carmela Mammone (née Sorgiovanni). She was raised in Reggio Calabria with her brothers and sisters. They were instilled from a young age with a strong faith and a dedicated work ethic.  Emilia married her beloved husband, Vincenzo Ciccarelle in Italy and the couple emigrated to the United States when she was 26.

Emilia was a wonderful mother who worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable life for her two children. She was a talented seamstress and also worked in the meat department of Grand Union in Morristown for many years prior to retiring.

Emilia was a longtime parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church and she prayed the rosary often. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking for her family. Emilia loved walking in Summit and spent many hours at the farmers market selecting fresh fruits and vegetables.

Emilia will be deeply missed by her family and they are comforted knowing that she is at peace with the Lord.

In addition to her parents, Emilia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vincenzo Ciccarelle in 1969 and her grandson, Jonathan Reidy. She is survived by her son, Joseph Ciccarelle and his wife, Kathy of Bedminster; her daughter, Nellie Reidy and her husband, Sean of Chatham; her brother, Cosimo Mammone and his wife, Nella; several brothers & sisters in Italy; her five cherished grandchildren, Mollie Reidy, Alexis, Daphne, Mia & James Ciccarelle; and many nieces and nephews.

Due to the Ciccarelle family’s concern for everyone’s safety and well-being, visitation and funeral services for Emilia will be held privately for her immediate family. Interment will be held privately at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Madison Memorial Home.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Emilia’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
