Obituary of Joanne S. Cuva

Joanne S. Cuva (nee Schaible), a longtime resident of Madison, died peacefully at her home on Monday, July 13, 2020 surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was 83.

Joanne was born in Newark on September 26, 1936 to the late John F. and Veronica Schaible. She was raised in Newark and after graduating high school went on to further her education as a legal secretary. Joanne had a long, dedicated career as a legal administrative assistant at the offices of Albert Dalena, Esq. of Madison. She played a key role in the operations of the office and possessed a tremendous knowledge in the legal field. Joanne also assisted her husband, Peter Cuva for many years in the daily operations of the office of their family-owned paving business, Peter’s Construction in East Hanover, until their retirement.

Joanne was a wonderful wife and a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, notably stepping in to help after the death of her sister-in-law to provide loving support for many years and do whatever she could do to make life better for her niece and nephews who had lost their mother. She was a fiercely loyal and dependable friend as well.

Joanne was very active in the Madison YMCA, as well as the Joy Class, book club and local theater group where she built many long friendships.

She is survived by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Peter Cuva of Madison; her brother, John G. Schaible, Sr. of Hudson, NY; many loving nieces & nephews; and many dear friends.

Due to current limitations on public gatherings, visitation for Joanne is being held for her family and very close friends from 11:30AM to 1:00PM on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1:30PM, following the visitation, at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison. We kindly encourage you to attend via live-stream by visiting www.svmnj.org and viewing the Mass on the main webpage of the church beginning at 1:30PM. Interment will be held at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.

Charitable contributions may be made in Joanne’s memory to the T.J. Martell Foundation or VNA Hospice of Morris County.
