Obituary of Lena Crasto

Lena Crasto, age 90, of Old Greenwich, CT, died peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, CT.

Lena was born in Chhindwara, India on May 17, 1930 to the late Prasana and Ruth Salve. She was raised in India in a family of six children. She was a naturally caring person and received her education as a nurse in India.

Lena was married to her beloved husband Valerian Francis Crasto in India and the couple raised their family there prior to moving to the United States in the 1980’s.

Lena settled in Secaucus, NJ with her family. She was a registered nurse and also the director of nursing at Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus for several years, prior to her retirement in 1990. In her retirement she resided in Baltimore, MD and Madison, NJ, prior to moving to Old Greenwich, CT a few years ago.

Lena loved her family deeply and she especially cherished her five grandchildren. She had a deep and profound faith and was an active parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison.

In addition to her parents, Lena was predeceased by her beloved husband, Valerian Francis Crasto in 2010. She is survived by one son, Pradeep Crasto and his wife, Rena of Old Greenwich, CT; one daughter, Surekha Jayawickrama and her husband, Harsha of Scarsdale, NY; five sisters, Bena, Lata. Mercy, Salloo and Pushpa; five cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Nikhil. Hannah, Sophia, and Isabella.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Madison Memorial Home and will be conducted privately for Lena’s family for everyone’s safety. Interment will be held at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison. For notes of condolence to the family, please visit www.madisonmemorialhome.com
