Obituary of Theresa A. McKay

Theresa Ann McKay (nee Nunziato), a longtime Parsippany-Troy Hills resident, died peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2020. She was 85.

Theresa was born in Albany, NY on February 8, 1935 to the late Ralph and Mary Nunziato. She was raised in Ravena, NY and attended high school at The Academy of the Holy Names in Albany, NY.

Theresa married James Robert (Jim) McKay on June 29, 1957. The couple lived in Morristown before settling in Parsippany-Troy Hills where they lived for many years and raised their beautiful family. They moved to Madison in 2018.

Theresa devoted her life to caring for her family, including many extended family members. In later years after her children were grown, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Morristown Planning Board and the College of Saint Elizabeth.

Theresa was an avid hiker, hiking year-round with her husband and many hiking club friends in the tri-state area, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the Adirondack Mountains. In 2004 at the age of 69, she completed a 200-mile hike from coast-to-coast of Northern England alongside her husband and many hiking friends.  She and Jim also enjoyed trips to Germany, Austria, Italy, and Sweden, as well as visits to family and friends in Seattle, Las Vegas, and Brazil.

She was a member of the Morristown & Cedar Knolls YMCA for over 35 years, taking yoga, aerobics, and strength classes well into her 80’s. She even taught yoga at a studio in Morristown for a time. She enjoyed square dancing and round dancing for many years, and loved all types of music, especially opera.

Theresa had a deep faith in God and was a parishioner of St. Christopher’s Church in Parsippany for many years. She had a warm, kind spirit and will be greatly treasured and missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Theresa was pre-deceased by her brother Joseph Nunziato; and her sister Evelyn Nunziato. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jim McKay; her son Jeffrey McKay (Diana Trump) of Bainbridge Island, WA; her three daughters Mercedes McKay (Dominick Scapati) of Madison, Pamela McKay Kolinsky of Las Vegas, NV, and Elisa McKay Medina (Doug) of Frederick, MD; her sister Frances DiAcetis (Anthony) of New York State; her ten cherished grandchildren Emma, Casey, Nicholas, Daniel, Jacob, Kevin, Paul, James, McKayla, and Christopher; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Visitation and funeral services will be held privately for the family for the safety of all. Interment will be held at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.
