Just learned of Fr. Ed's death.
What a shock!
He was my parish priest at St. Joseph's in Lincoln Park, NJ. I worked in Manhattan and we often made plans to meet in the city, have dinner and enjoy all NYC had to offer. I moved to California 30 years ago and we lost touch. Fond memories!

I knew Ed through GOAL .I am a retired NYCPD Det, from the 79 Pct. /Bedford Stuvvasant.. He was a warm friendly guy still a cop .I used to kid Ed about his body ..He worked out & had a physic of a 18 year old body builder abs, pec. etc. He knew who my brother in law was .He is a R.C. priest in the Brooklyn Diocese. I was at a dinner in the80's down in Greenwich Village & Ed had me come to a table with several guys .I thought they were all cops .Every one else in the room was. This table was full of ----priests. I was amazed that Ed had became a priest & admired him for this action.Michael

Fr. Ed frequently said mass at our parish. He always remembered veterans in his prayer requests. I always looked forward to seeing him and hearing his meaningful sermons. His was a life of service, may he Rest In Peace.

I remember Ed at seminary in Huntington, NY in the 1980s. We were both surprised when we realized that my sister-in-law was his first cousin. It was impressive to me then to know that this humble man had had a 20 year career as a New York City police officer.
I was surprised again today (though, knowing Ed, I probably shouldn't have been) in reading his obituary here, to learn of the three masters degrees he'd earned before ever entering seminary. He never mentioned any of that. He was that rare person always more interested in others than in tooting his own horn. I mostly lost track of him after I left seminary; but i remember him as a good listener, and someone who was unassuming, gentle and kind. I knew he'd be a fine priest.

Such a cool guy. How many people can say their priest is a retired detective from the NYPD? I always loved when Father Dillon said mass. To me, he was a cross between Clint Eastwood and Christopher Walken. My parents, who live in Secaucus, had the honor of attending one of Father Dillon's masses when they were visiting me. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is now protecting and serving in the most peaceful place.

Father Dillon was a salt of the earth type person.....no pretense, humble, always willing to help, and offer encouragement. We were both native New Yorkers and it was easy to share stories about politics (he was not a Hillary fan). I enjoyed hearing about his years on the force of the NYPD, the baby he helped deliver, turning 70 yrs old.
Our senior parishioners mentioned he was the glue that held our parish together when a pastor was very ill, years ago.
Despite his health issues he continued to celebrate Mass at OLMC and recently, officiate at a baptism. He will be missed and we are grateful to have known him. RIP, Father Dillon.

My son Danny and I will miss him dearly.
His presence and conversation, and accent ( of course) took me back in time to Manhattan College.
He also represented an inspirational link to 3 of the main pillars of the way my family was raised (with Brooklyn roots) and in turn how we raised our children.
Respect for God
Respect for law and order
Respect for history, both personal and societal.
I am so very grateful that Danny had an opportunity to meet and get to know him.
He is already missed.
