Obituary of Bartolomeo "Benny" Roberto

Bartolomeo “Benny” Roberto, a longtime Madison resident, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Benny was predeceased by his son, Michele Roberto; and four sisters, Ida, Rosie, Mary & Josephine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Fausta Roberto (nee Mongiello); his daughter, Marie Antoinette Mack and her husband, Steve; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Roberto; one sister, Sally Ammirato; two brothers, Salvatore Roberto & Joseph Roberto; three grandchildren, Robert Mack (Brittany), Andrew Mack (Danielle) & Christina Roberto; and two great-grandchildren, Annabelle Mack & Michael James Mack.

Benny was born on May 30, 1928 in Cassano Irpino, Avellino, Italy to the late Michael and Maria Antonia Roberto. He was raised in Italy and as a young man he always had a deep admiration for the United States. In 1947, at the young age of 19, Benny immigrated to the US and shortly after returned to Italy to bring his young bride back with him to start their new life in the US. The couple settled in Madison where they raised their cherished family and would spend the next 68 prosperous, memorable years. Benny had a career spanning over 30 years with the maintenance department of the Hoechst Celanese Corp. of Summit prior to his retirement. He was an avid collector of stamps and enjoyed trips to NYC in search of rare finds with his wife, Fausta. Benny’s greatest love was for his family, especially for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he adored tremendously.
