Obituary of Essely S. Archie, Jr.

Essely S. Archie, Jr., of Morristown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 21, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on March 3, 1948, in Chester, South Carolina, Essely was the son of the late Essely S. Archie, Sr. and Jessie M. Archie. 

He moved to New Jersey with his family in the 1960s and graduated from Morristown High School. He went on to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University before completing his radiology training at Overlook Hospital in Summit. 

Following his education, Essely joined the staff at Overlook, where he dedicated an extraordinary 45 years of service as a Radiologic Technologist. His compassion, professionalism, and commitment to caring for others left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike.

More than anything, Essely cherished his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather who was deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always ready with thoughtful advice, encouragement, and unwavering love. Many considered him a father figure, and he was known for his steady presence, wisdom, and generous heart.

Outside of work, Essely enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, proudly cheering on the New York Mets, New York Knicks, and during his childhood, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Anyone who knew him also knew a daily run to the corner store to play the “numbers” was going to be a part of his schedule. He was also an avid fan of Westerns, Star Trek, and had a lifelong appreciation for contemporary jazz music, building an impressive vinyl record collection over the years. 

He is survived by his daughter, Yulon P. Pierce (husband Jeffrey) and his son, Dale C. Archie; his beloved grandchildren, Jayde Pierce and Jayson Pierce; his brother, James Archie; his sisters, Nettie Archie, Doris Archie, Mable Archie, and Yvonne Archie; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Jesse Archie; and his sister, Rosie Archie-Hillsman.

Essely will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, humor, dedication to his family, and the countless lives he touched throughout his career and community. His love, guidance, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services are being held privately for Essely’s family under the care of Madison Memorial Home.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Essely's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
