Obituary of Gregory L. Patrei

Gregory Lee Patrei, of Florham Park and formerly a longtime resident of New York, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, with his daughter by his side at the age of 79.

Gregory was born on January 9, 1947, in Albany, New York, to Anthony Patrei and Mae Betzer. He grew up in the Albany area and went on to pursue higher education, earning a master’s degree in education. Gregory shared his passion for mathematics with generations of students, building a fulfilling career as a high school calculus teacher in Saratoga, New York.

Outside of the classroom, Gregory was a man of diverse interests. An avid sports fan, he spent many seasons enthusiastically cheering on the New York Giants, the New York Yankees, and pursuing his love for hockey. He enjoyed the quiet challenge of reading and solving crossword puzzles, and he deeply treasured his time spent during summers in New England, as well as his college years in Ithaca, New York. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dogs, whom he loved dearly. Above all else, Gregory was extremely proud of his daughter and grandchildren, who were the true joys of his life.

Gregory is survived by his loving daughter, Laurie Berkowitz; his two cherished grandchildren, Emmy and Noah; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Mae.

Funeral services are being held privately for his family.
