Obituary of Mary Tomeo
Mary Tomeo, of Convent Station and formerly a lifelong resident of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Sunrise of Madison. She was 101 years old, just 12 days shy of celebrating her 102nd birthday.
Mary is survived by her two devoted sisters, Theresa Tomeo and Patricia Chiarolanza; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her four brothers, Angelo, Donald, Frank & Benjamin Tomeo; and her three sisters, Rose Squillace, Jennie Aielli & Elaine Green.
Born on July 20, 1924, in Jersey City to the late Patrick and Anna Tomeo, Mary was raised in a large, loving family alongside her nine siblings. Their parents instilled in them the importance of faith, family, and hard work—values that guided Mary throughout her life.
Mary had a distinguished career as an engineering assistant with RCA in Harrison, later transitioning to a role at Colgate in Jersey City, where she continued to dedicate herself until her retirement. Known for her unwavering faith, Mary was a devoted parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in Convent Station.
Her spirit of service was evident through her volunteer work, dedicating over 25 years to the gift shop at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Generous and kind-hearted, Mary found joy in giving back to her community.
A passionate traveler, Mary explored the world extensively. She cherished her journeys across Europe, relishing in her five visits to Italy, as well as travels to Greece and Egypt. Each adventure was a testament to her curious spirit and love for new experiences.
Mary's greatest joy came from her deep connections with family. She cherished her relationships with each of her nine siblings and held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. Her family was her pride and joy, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Mary had a heart of gold, always putting others before herself. As we celebrate her remarkable life, we are comforted by the memories she leaves behind. May she rest in peace, knowing that her work here is done.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial for Mary which will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at St. Thomas More Church, 4 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ 07960.
Interment will be held at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.
