Obituary of Joseph W. Gero
Joseph W. Gero, a lifelong Madison resident, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2026, at the age of 60.
Born on July 29, 1965, in Morristown, Joe was the son of Robert J. Gero and Ruth (Smith) Gero. Raised in Madison, he was a proud graduate of Madison High School and remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life.
Joe was a skilled electrician who began his career as a member of the Electricians Union before branching out to start his own business. Known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to help others, he built a respected career and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
In his younger years, Joe enjoyed playing football and wrestling in high school. He had a love for the outdoors and found joy in spending time at Lake George, listening to music, and being around animals. He was known for his lively personality, loud, charming, and full of humor, and for being deeply protective of the people he loved.
Above all, Joe was devoted to his family. He was a dedicated father to his daughter, Brianna Gero Uhrig and her husband, Harry, and a loving grandfather to Nina and Blaze, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his beloved wife, Sue Hengstler, who has been by his side since 2003; his stepson, Joseph Hagan; his brother, Kevin Gero and his wife, Lisa; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Joe will be remembered for his big personality, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty to those he cared about. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
