Obituary of Mary B. Mack

Mary B. Mack, a longtime Ramsey resident, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026 at Valley Hospital in Paramus just one month shy of her 86th birthday.

Born on May 25, 1940 in Kingston, New York, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph Browne and Jane (Boyle) Browne. She was raised in Marbletown, New York, where she grew up on a dairy and potato farm. As the eldest of five siblings, Mary took on a nurturing role early in life, helping care for her brothers and sisters with love and dedication. The younger siblings always thought she was the real “boss” of the family.

Mary had a natural gift for mathematics and shared that talent by teaching math at local schools early in her career. She later worked in cosmetics sales before establishing a long and successful career as an accountant, a profession she devoted herself to for over 40 years, including her time with Onkyo in Allendale.

She met her beloved husband, John R. Mack, while babysitting on a farm where he worked. The two were married on September 12, 1959, and shared many happy years together until his passing on July 19, 2023. Together, they enjoyed hiking and building a life rooted in love, partnership, and family.

Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading mystery novels, often sharing that passion by buying books for her grandchildren. She was a devoted fan of her Subaru, always ready for her next outing and cherished time with her family above all else.

Mary is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” Mack and his wife Melissa; her daughter, Karen Mack; her grandchildren, Kate and Jack; her brothers, Jim Browne and Marty Browne; her sisters, Ellen Kaplan and Margaret Browne; her sister-in-law, Janet Goodwin; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Mary will be remembered for her intelligence, warmth, and quiet strength. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering care for those around her.

Mary will be laid to rest privately with her husband at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Covenant House New Jersey, 330 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102-2630.
