Obituary of Kathryn M. Scalera

On March 15, 2026, at the age of 93, Kathryn M. Scalera (nee Marcantuono) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.

She was predeceased by her husband Judge Nicholas Scalera, her parents Anthony and Emilia (nee Solimine) Marcantuono, her sister Phyliss Graziano and her husband Gasper, and the many aunts and uncles who were so much a part of her life.

She is survived by her loving children Mary Ellen Scalera, David C. Scalera, Susan Egan and her husband John; her cherished grandchildren Brian Egan and his wife Lily; Kelsey Mutscheller and her husband Michael; and great-granddaughters, Penelope Rose Egan and Scarlett Jane Egan. Also, devoted sister, Geraldine Luciani and her husband Joseph along with many wonderful nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, and two of her beloved  lifelong  friends, the “Club Girls”.

After working in various office positions, once married, Kathryn became a homemaker. In her free time, she volunteered at the Rotunda Association, as well as United Hospitals in Newark where she served as their first Patient Representative. Also she volunteered at the Eye Institute of New Jersey where she served on the Board of Trustees, chaired fundraising events, and was hand-selected by  the surgeons to care for post-operative babies and young children.

Kathryn was an avid reader, who also loved the beach, travel, the theater, the opera and fashion. She will be most remembered for her love of children, her compassion for others, impeccable sense of style and class, natural beauty, common sense advice and sharp wit.

Kathryn was a compassionate, caring, giving soul who made the world a little better by being here. She will be deeply missed by her family, relatives, friends and all she touched.
