Obituary of Antonio Bassolino
Antonio (Tony) Bassolino, a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026. He was 76.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Stella; his son, Sebastiano (Sam), and his wife, Dana; his daughter, Carmela, and his four cherished grandchildren, Sofia, AJ, Alexa, and Antonia. He also leaves behind his brother, Giuseppe; his brother Ralph and his wife, Theresa; his brother Salvatore and his wife, Palmina; his sister, Palma; his sister Angela and her husband, Frank; as well as many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members.
Antonio was predeceased by his parents, Sebastiano and Carmela Bassolino; his oldest brother, Andrea Bassolino; his brother-in-law, Antonio Cianci; and his sister-in-law, Angelina Bassolino.
Born on April 23, 1949, in Somma Vesuviana, Italy, Antonio immigrated to the United States with his family in 1965. He made his home in Madison, New Jersey, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
Antonio was the proud owner of Tony Bassolino Painting & Decorating. He dedicated many years to his trade, earning the respect of those who knew and worked with him. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.
He enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures, including playing cards, golfing, and bocce. Tony especially cherished time spent with family and friends. He was also deeply involved in the Forum Club, an Italian-American club where he enjoyed the camaraderie and sense of community it provided.
Tony will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and the warmth he shared with everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Tony on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. that will be celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Tony's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research.
