Obituary of Josephine Carbone

Giuseppa “Josephine” Carbone, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and love.

Josephine was born on December 20, 1936, in Limina, Sicily, to the late Cateno and Maria Oliveri. She spent her early years in her hometown before immigrating to the United States in 1954 at the age of 18, embracing her new life with determination and grace. She proudly became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1962 and remained a longtime resident of Manhattan, New York, which she called home for many years.

While working in a factory, Josephine met the love of her life, Rocco Carbone, a tailor whose steady presence would become her lifelong anchor. Josephine worked as a seamstress, and their shared craftsmanship and work ethic laid the foundation for a deep and enduring bond. They married in 1968 and were truly inseparable until Rocco’s passing.

Rocco later worked as a building supervisor in Manhattan, and Josephine was always by his side to assist with cleaning, painting, and any maintenance work she could, exemplifying her tireless dedication and partnership. Her industrious spirit extended to her passion for flea markets, where she delighted in discovering vintage items and clothing. She lovingly restored pieces to collect or resell at her own flea market booth, a pursuit that brought her great joy and fulfillment.

Josephine and Rocco cherished their time together, especially vacationing at Seaside to enjoy the beauty and relaxation of the Jersey Shore. Above all, Josephine loved her family fiercely. Her husband was her anchor, and her children and grandchildren were her greatest pride.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Rocco Carbone; and her brothers Domenico and Concetto Oliveri.

Josephine is survived by her loving daughters Roxann Carbone and Jessica Occhino (Anthony); her brother Cosimo Oliveri (Nunzia); her sister Carmela Oliveri (Elio); her cherished grandchildren Juliette and Sebastian Occhino; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever remember her warmth, strength, and generous heart.

Josephine’s life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and enduring love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation for Josephine to be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
