I was in the business school with Nick and Justin. Since the time we were freshman we were in a lot of the same groups together because I “looked smart“ as a consequence, I got to spend quite a bit of time with Nick throughout college. He was always kind and inclusive. He spoke about Jenny all of the time there are two stories one is he forgot that it was Ash Wednesday, so myself and one of my friends and him went down to the big cathedral downtown. Everybody else was relatively dressed up, and Nick was in his Ohio State sweats, and he was so unapologetic about it it was great. There was also a night far behind the bars and closed where he had somehow gotten separated from his group of people and ended up in front of my sorority house. He called me to give him a ride home, which I was happy to do, but when I came outside, he was holding a golf club when I asked him. Why are you holding a golf club and where did you get it? He said you know what I really don’t know. I know it gets spoken a lot here, but he really was a truly great human being.

Sending my condolences to the Mangold family. I am a mailman in Madison and I used to see Mangold almost every day. I deliver mail to the school where his children attend. Everytime I seen him going to pick up his kids he always said hello to me and was very polite and respectful. I'm going to miss seeing him. May The Lord comfort the hearts of his wife and kids. Rip Mangold.

We were not personally acquainted, I only knew Nick from his incredible Jets career and from seeing him around Chatham and Madison, at the supermarket, at the deli and so on. He was always friendly, always polite, always said hello. We look up to our sports heroes, put them on pedestals, some deserve it, certainly some don't. To me, Nick was the model pro athlete and model person. What a terrible loss. My condolences to the Mangold Family.

I met Nick and Jenny at my office in Mendham a year before he started with the Jets. At the time I had no idea who he was and I soon realized I was working with the starting center for the NY Jets! You would think he would be pretentious, a bit full of himself, but he wasn’t at all, not even a little bit. He and Jenny were so down to earth, so humble and kind. He had a large presence but more in character than size. Thank you, Nick, for being such a good person. You will be missed.

Our family is heartbroken to hear about Nick’s passing. We have so many memories of Nick from Wee Elks, Incarnation, and Alter football. He was a wonderful friend to AJ, and treated Vince and Jake like little brothers. In addition to a lifetime of memories, may you find comfort in knowing he meant so much to so many.

As a 30 yr season ticket holder I wore Nick's 74 Jersey for the entire time he played here. I had the honor of meeting him several times and each time he was awesome. The best was when I had field passes Nick made sure to come over and thank me for wearing the 74! Rest in peace Nick. Jets Nation will never forget you.

I grew up in a single parent household and NY Jets were always on the Sunday TV. When I was old enough to fully understand football, I unfortunately did not follow in my dads footsteps as a Jet fan, but Mr. Mangold was a favorite of mine to watch. I followed him throughout his NFL career and even after retirement, to be fair saying favorite is probably an understatement of sorts. His personality through interviews and behind the scene videos shined brightly and forever will. My heart aches for the fans and especially his family. Thank you for the time you shared here. You will always be our gang green Thor. Rest in peace.

Being born and raised on Long Island I’ve been a New York Jets fan since 1967, and I can say without hesitation that Nick Mangold was the greatest center I ever saw wear the green and white. His toughness, leadership, and intelligence defined what it meant to be a Jet. But beyond the game, what stood out most was his humility — he carried himself like the kind of man you’d be proud to call a neighbor or a friend. Nick wasn’t just a great player; he was a class act who represented everything good about the sport and the people who play it. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. His legacy will always be part of Jets history — and in the hearts of fans like me who will never forget him. Rest in peace Nick.

I had the privilege of being the speech therapist for Nick and Jenny’s two youngest children, and from my visits to their home, I was always struck by how warm, welcoming, and genuine Nick was. It' so evident how much he and Jenny cherish their children and the joy they find in family life. Their kindness and generosity touched so many. I am so deeply sorry for this heartbreaking loss and am keeping Jenny and the entire family in my thoughts and prayers.

It’s not about a football player that had a lot of fans.
It’s about a man that unfortunately left his wife a widow at such a young age without his control.
It’s about daughters that will never get to dance with “Daddy” at their wedding.
My heart goes out to the Mangold family.
We as fans unfortunately put our hero’s on a shelf without realizing that they too are human and have families and strive for the happiness and life that we all do.
I never met the man and can’t speak for him, but being a professional athlete I’m sure was an important achievement to him but in the big picture a small part of his life.
A truly sad ending to what should’ve been a great story.
Thoughts and prayers to the Mangold Family and friends.
A life lost far too soon!

me in world for me and i was cracking some jokes that he let out a hearty laugh. Bottom line is I was a random fan that he took a great deal of time to speak with me. A wonderful man.

Nick, my heart is heavy as I say goodbye to not just an incredible NFL star, but a truly amazing friend. Nick, thank you for being there for me from middle school through high school and college. You never turned away from me because of my special needs — instead, you became an even stronger friend, one who showed me what true kindness and friendship really mean.
You had a heart bigger than the game you played. You treated everyone with respect, and you always made me feel seen, included, and valued. I’ll never forget your laughter, your encouragement, and the way you made people feel like they mattered.
Nick, may you rest peacefully. My personal prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for touching my life with your friendship and for being a light in this world. You’ll live on in my heart forever. no we do not see each other often however when we did it was just like we spoke yesterday I was deeply impacted when I heard the news I did not know you as well as I would have liked to however I thank you for the time we did speak especially up at Ohio State after a big win and a couple of New York Jets games I did get to come see you play you are always so kind to me for that I will always be grateful most of all I want to thank you for being you football player aside you were such a great man! Go elks go Knights go buckeyes and go Jets!
Rest in peace, my friend.

I remember when Nick returned to his grade school “Incarnation” to speak to the student body during Right to Read Week. My 4th grade students were in awe, as Nick articulately spoke with enthusiasm of the many books he enjoyed reading at their age! He took the time to shake all 800 students hands, as well as the teachers, as we left the assembly. Nick inspired many young minds that day! I’m sure they have not forgotten that moment, and are saddened, as I, of a brilliant life cut way too soon. Sympathy and prayers to all the Mangold family.

To Jenny and the kids; I knew your husband and father back in the days when the Mangold family lived in Centerville and Nick was going to Ohio State. He was a class act young man then and when he left Ohio for the Big Apple, it was a big loss for Buckeye Nation. Nick left us way too soon and will be greatly missed. May God bless and keep you all.

There is so many times that I would get the pulse of the team thru Nick. I leaned on him and his fellow linemates every game. I demanded that they take the burden for the team. The only chance we had to win is if they would dominate the game. A funny story is before we played a game the night before the game I said we would run it 40 times vs Detroit. Well the Lions put 9 guys down to stop the run. I realized this and went to Nick and company and said I know I told you guys we would run it 40 times, but I think we can Win the game if we no huddle them and throw it every snap. I NEVER wanted to lie to my players so I had to get permission from my OL. Nick looked at D Wood and looked at me said let’s Win the game…and we did. Later on the plane he said let’s just say 4 yards or more we will run it again. We adopted that from then on.
Another story to tell you kind of man Nick was. He had a severe toe injury and the Team Doctors said he was 100% out for the last game of the season. I was getting fired the next day and told the team. Nick came to me and said he was going to play. We both knew why…I did NOT allow him to play that game but he was going to play for me.
