Obituary of Jacquelyn A. Hynes

Jacquelyn Hynes (née Severn), a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockaway, New Jersey on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 81. She is now reunited with her cherished husband, John J. Hynes, who predeceased her just three months earlier on July 23, 2025.

Jacquelyn is survived by her two loving daughters, Jeanette Nigro and her husband Matt Nigro & Joyce Hynes and her husband David Nigro; two cherished grandchildren, Daniel Nigro and Dana Nigro; and several extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to her husband John and her parents, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Teresa Martin and Virginia Abline.

Born in Newark to the late Sterling and Marion Severn, Jacquelyn was raised alongside her two sisters. A proud graduate of Weequahic High School in Newark, Jacquelyn began her career as a bookkeeper before dedicating herself to raising her two daughters. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into creating a warm and loving home.

Jacquelyn and John were a remarkable couple, married on March 5, 1966, and their bond was a testament to true partnership. They settled in Union, NJ where they nurtured lifelong friendships. In their retirement, they found happiness in Frenchtown, NJ where Jacquelyn embraced her role as a part-time shop-at-home shopper at Shoprite, relishing the opportunity to connect with others in her community.

An avid lover of puzzles, word searches, coloring, and especially sudoku, Jacquelyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Jacquelyn's legacy is one of love, resilience and devotion. As we gather to honor her memory, we take solace in knowing she is at peace, surrounded by the love of her family and reunited with her beloved John.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Jacquelyn on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, located at 159 Main Street, Madison, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jacquelyn's memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692

Jacquelyn will forever remain in our hearts, a shining example of love and devotion.
